At this time, we already see whats coming from 3 major technology company. All the new hardware and software is clear, no more blurry leak anymore.

And then, they shows us, almost like everyone got their iphone, ipod and ipad updated to iOS 9 in no time. Others says that 110 million PC is already use Windows 10 in just only 3 months (if im right :).

And then, this one is always coming each year after all the dust is settle, its an article about Android fragmentation. You see them everywhere, on web, rss, linkedin and many other. Maybe you even see someone talk about them on tv (assumed you still watch tv, like actually watch it, not for background noise only :).

In that kind of article, the writer always included some infographic showing some people is still using gingerbread or ice cream sandwich. They tell you that, many phone maker will updated you phone in the next 3 or 6 month, or even never. And they always compared it to Apple.

Yeah, i know.. Android update is not the best one out there.

Anyway, lets see from user perspective. But before that, let me tell you, i came from Indonesia, so what i mean user perspective here are, Indonesian Android user perspective that i see, look and talk around me. It might be different from other user, especially for those of you that came from developed country, but hey.. it might be also very similar.

First, Android is about choice. I can tell you that people here understand that. They understand that these phone are based on Android, so, their needed or wanted apps and games should works.

If they had less money, they buy lesser know brand phone or lower end phone from well know brand. Its hardware might be suck, but they know it, and quite happy with it.
If they are have lots of money, or need something to tell their friend that they are rich, they buy Samsung phone. The Galaxy S3,4,5,6 should be fine. It can’t be wrong with these series.

And, if you are a geek, nerd, tech savvy guy or girls, and care about software update, you try to buy a hard to find Nexus phone.

Yes, let me emphasize the statement, if you are a kind of people who care about software update.
Because you know what, other people beside this group doesn’t even care about software update.

From what i see, many people here buy a relatively cheap phone (from 80USD to 300USD). And unlike you American, we buy off contract phone here, on free market. If its 150USD, its 150USD, no string attached, no some 30USD monthly cost you should pay.

And people here just buy a new phone for like every one and a half year or two. And after that 1,5 years, they get a new better spec phone that came with new updated software.

So, this is why (maybe) they don’t care about software update. If you live with Android, you should know that most app can run on to of 2–3 years old OS version. Like today, most app can run on Android 4.0 that originally released on 2011. So, having an Android 4.4 today is beyond OK for most people.

I know that software have bug, and phone maker should have the responsibility to handle this kind of problem.

But then again. The reality is, people just don’t care that much. They buy a new phone sooner or later. And then, they get updated …

Maybe, actually there are no problem with Android software update. At least, inside Indonesian customer point of view.
